Pssttt...hey...you want a free BlackBerry PlayBook?
In my last post, I talked about getting a Motorolla Droid 2 over the weekend. While I like my Droid and I think I'm going to be happy with it, truth be told I wanted a Blackberry. I mean I really, really wanted a Blackberry. I alway have. I have spent many hours of the last week researching and checking out the features of the various BB models, and probably just as many hours debating back and forth on whether to get a BB or a Droid.
So, why did I wind up getting the Droid? In all honesty, because it was free. Verizon was having a buy one, get one free sale, and my wife had made up her mind that she wanted the Droid 2. I figured that if I was going to have to buy one for her, I might as well take the free one that came with it. Don't get me wrong, the Droid is a fantastic device and I know I'm going to like it. But, had she not wanted the Droid, or if Verizon wasn't having that sale, I would have almost certainly walked out with a Blackberry.
I'll admit that one of the reasons I'm so enthusiastic about the BlackBerrys now is the PlayBook that's going to be coming out soon. This thing looks awesome! (Take that, iPad!) I've been telling everyone for weeks that I want to get one of these when they come out. So, imagine my surprise when I found out that there's a way for geeks like me to get one for free!
That's right, I said free. BlackBerry is offering a FREE Blackberry PlayBook to every developer who submits an application to the BlackBerry App World and gets it approved prior to the PlayBook's launch. To get started, head over to the PlayBook developers overview page and the PlayBook developer resources page.
You'd better believe I'm going to be working on something! The PlayBook supports Adobe AIR out of the box, so how hard could it be, right?
