Fun Code Comments

Today I was going through a file and found a comment block that started with this: "The reason for the CRAP (Candidly Ridiculous Application Programming) code below is...".

I thought it was pretty creative and got a good chuckle out of it. I've always liked it when I come across funny comments like this in code. It shows that (some) programmers do have a sense of humor about their work...even if their code is CRAP. ;-)

I'm just not that creative, the best I've ever come up with was when I named a variable "darnSkippy".

Best ColdFusion quote EVER!

In a (long) series of comments posted on this ColdFusion tutorial by Matt Gifford, the usual CF vs. PHP argument reared it's ugly head again. When the argument reached the topic of shared hosting costs, I almost spit out my drink when I read this comment:

"You probably won't find a 5 dollar a month hosting option for CF like you can with PHP. But basing your business on a host that charges as much as an imported beer is probably not a good idea."

Who said that? Our very own Jedi Master.

Tales from the front lines

Throughout my career in the IT industry, I've come across a few "interesting" individuals. You know who I'm talking about: the computer illiterate end user; the coworker who knows how to program because he's used FrontPage; the
customer who knows more than you about something even though he hired you because he didn't know how to do it; The list goes on and on.

Sometimes, in general conversations with my coworkers these stories come up, and we all get a good chuckle out of them. So, I decided to compile a few of my war stories into a blog post.
